I remember a time when we were moving to a new home. This happened a few years back and we were eagerly waiting for this special moment.

I was in my hometown in Cochin, which is situated in the southern end of India. We had relocated here from North India, precisely from New Delhi.
What did you imagine?
The city was new for me in every way. So, before I began to scout out for what I needed to unknown places, I thought for a moment. I decided that I first needed to be in the new abode and plan for every bit. I drove over to our yet to occupy home and got inside. As I stood in the living room I vividly picturised what I needed to put where. I believe my imagination was up to the hilt.
And explain how did you feel about it?
Since my younger days, I have been blessed with imaginative skills and intuitiveness. But this was the day these skills actually came to my help when I needed them the most. Just because of my mental voyage through the rooms and imagining every space well-furnished, I was finally able to list what I wanted and unlist everything else. Part 3 Follow up questions on creativity, imagination as a skill at work, its advantages and disadvantages:
- Which subjects are helpful for a child to develop imaginative skills?
In my opinion, children can imbibe a lot through visual learning in school. If the curriculum is aided with pictures, story writing and creative activities, they acquire lessons more vibrantly than rote learning. They can turn in projects made with simple things like kitchen ingredients or colours and clay to get more associated with what they do. Children should also be encouraged to ask a lot of questions, which would impart in them clearer and stronger concepts. I am sure these techniques can kick in their imaginative skills to a great extent.
- What kind of jobs require you to be creative? Why?
Every job has its creative requirement. Certainly, I think there are jobs that need one to have a more imaginative edge than others. Jobs in designing, marketing, advertising and educations are some significant areas that need this skill. The main reason is that the associated tasks in these fields cannot be repetitive and should align with the need of the hour. For instance, an advertiser has to target the needs of his clients, which may be immensely diverse and also would have distinct requirements for each product or service they sell. Similarly, a teacher needs to have an imaginative knack to deal with students. She can never adopt – ‘one size fits all’ strategy as each child’s or every classroom’s need is different and has to be addressed that way.
- Do you think people, in general, should have a sense of creativity?
Definitely, this goes without saying. If not, then every household, every kitchen, every garden would have looked the same. People should try and invest in their creative and imaginative sense and that is a perfect way to define each person’s individuality and preference. We usually notice this imaginative sense across city streets, shops and neighbourhoods. I also think that nowadays, people want to learn more and improve on these skills as technology enables us to get a peep into home decor ideas, interior designing styles and colour schemes.
- Who do you think has better imagination- youngsters or children?
I would say children are more imaginative than youngsters. Most of the times, they ask about things we would have barely thought of. But I also think that youngsters have a larger scope of experimenting with their imaginative or creative skills than little ones. They can devote more time to it and are even capable of capitalising on it. With the dawn of fast streaming and YouTubing culture, youngsters can also monetize on their skills that are innovative and ergonomic.
- Do you think imaginative people are advantageous in the workplace? Why?
Absolutely, yes to this question. Imaginative people are like a silver lining in an organisation. They light up the work environment and also allow other team members to engage. Overall, a company also has many benefits if the employees come up with innovative solutions according to the need of the hour. Most of the brainstorming or team meetings done in companies are primarily looking to seek creative solutions. So, imagination can be seen as an asset in the workplace.
