All about OET

Occupational English Test is taken by individuals for different reasons and their expectations from the test differ widely. It is rather difficult to build a ‘one size fits all’ type of guide that works for everyone. However, we have summed up a few questions that might be concerned with anyone planning to give the OET test.

Let’s Begin

Answers you must know

OET tests require dedicated training and practice for most people, especially if you are required to score at least grade B.

We at Angels School of Knowledge prompt you to ask yourself these important questions,

Which countries accept the OET test?

The countries which accept OET test scores are Australia, Dubai, Ireland, Nambia, New Zealand, Singapore, The United Kingdom and Ukraine. The Australian and The New Zealand governments also recognise OET test for most Visa and Immigration categories. This link from the official OET website should give you more insight.

Which medical professions accept OET test?

OET has been developed specifically for 12 healthcare professions: Dentistry, Dietetics, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiography, Speech Pathology and Veterinary Science. Visit the OET website here.

What is the score that I need?

The next step is to know your required score. It’s important to know the required score for immigration, study or work.

Score requirement widely differs for each candidate. Usually, your immigration agent, student counsellor or employer abroad can help you here.

Where is the OET test conducted in India, the cost and can I afford it?

The OET test is conducted in many cities across India – Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Thiruvananthapuram. OET costs AUD 587, that’s around Indian Rupees 30,000.

For anyone who wants to book the test, it’s highly recommended to do so from the official OET link. Visit the OET website here.

Get the right training

It’s time to go hunting for the right training centre or more importantly “Find The Right Trainer For You“. Some might prefer Online training while others might need a little more hand holding with actual classes.

Important questions to ask yourself,

Do I go for online training or classroom classes?

It depends on your availability and current level of English. If you need a grade above B, it is strongly advised to try and enrol for classroom classes.

Angels school of knowledge at Cochin provides OET classroom training with individual attention to each student.

How much time can I invest in training daily?

If you work or are busy otherwise, then plan carefully as it takes dedicated effort to do well in the OET test.

A tip for working professionals, try to find weekend classes. A Saturday or Sunday or even a day off relieves you both mentally and physically, letting you start anew.

What is my present level of English as per CEFR?

Most importantly, how good is the trainer, trainer reviews and online presence?

Before finalising a training centre, check for google reviews and online presence. Your final call should be the Trainer, is he/she compatible with you.

Prepare more, if needed

Some of us might need extra training or some more confidence. It all depends on how well you score in the mock tests, they let you know your level and your score and is highly dependent on your trainer’s ability to assess you correctly.

Some important questions you need to answer at this point,

What is my mock test score and is it enough?

Which section/s do I need to practice more?

Your mock test scores will tell you your weak areas.

Did the training improve my score or should I look for another trainer?

We ask our students to take a mock test before and after training, this helps in spotting any improvement/decline in your language. If you know whether the training helped or not, you could make a better decision. If you are looking for a new trainer, please put a thought on

What was missing in the previous training?

Book your test
