IELTS BAND DESCRIPTORS – Jumping from band 6 to 7

Howdy

Are you stuck at a band score of 6 or 6.5,

especially in IELTS writing module then this is the page for you.

I have trained many students from across the globe, most of them come to me for a higher band score (band 7 and above). Believe me, language or skills in English is rarely a deterrent for these candidates. Most already have a good command over English, then where is the issue? Why are these students not able to score higher in IELTS?

The answer, my friend, lies in the IELTS BAND DESCRIPTORS. The first thing you need to understand is that there are certain things that IELTS expects from you. These parameters are listed in the IELTS band descriptors. It is imperative that you know them and understand how to use them.

IELTS BAND DESCRIPTORS

IELTS checks all your task responses under four parameters,

TASK ACHIEVEMENT,

COHERENCE AND COHESION,

LEXICAL RESOURCES,

GRAMMATICAL RANGE AND ACCURACY.

These four parameters are further divided into different band groups, from 0 to 9. You can get a copy of the official band descriptors from the British Council website.

If you go through the document you would realise that it is not self-explanatory. It raises more questions than answering them!

That’s exactly where I come in and clear this dilemma for you. In my video on IELTS band descriptors, I have discussed every point on the band 6 and 7 scales and compared them as well. This video gives an understanding of WHAT IELTS EXPECTS FROM YOUR ESSAYS.

So, get comfortable, grab a cup of joe and learn the tricks to scoring higher in IELTS.
